Vanessa A. Doctor asked: Social bookmarking is a unique method for Internet users to store, organize, share and search bookmarks of web pages. In this system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share.
The bookmarks are usually public, however depending on the service’s features, they may be saved privately, shared only with limited groups of people, or be shared only inside certain networks. Social bookmarking is a unique organizational process that goes further by making public the list of sites that you frequently visit. It is also the process of organizing your “favorite” websites, such as the ones you would like to re-visit. You can also bookmark them on a special social bookmarking website.
How To Attract More People To Your Site
Here are a few things to consider whenever one is interested in attracting increased traffic from other interested social bookmarking members.
- Keep tabs on your headlines. A lot of great articles go unnoticed on social bookmarking sites because their headlines are not catchy enough. Your headline is the first, and most often the only thing users will see from your article, so if you don’t make the effort to provide a catchy headline, your chances of getting to the front page are small.
- Good content works wonders. If your articles are just plain useless and offer nothing special, bookmarking them would be useless. You might cheat users once but don’t count on repetitive visits. More importantly, you can get your site banned from social bookmarking sites, when you persistently post junk.
- Write short but coherent descriptions. The headline is very important in drawing attention. However, if you want to keep that attention, a meaningful description is vital. The description must be slightly provocative because this draws more attention, however do not use false facts or lies to provoke interest.
For instance, if your write “This article will reveal to you the 10 sure ways to deal with stress once and forever and live like a king from now on.” visitors will hardly think that your story is true and facts-based. You also might be tempted to use a very long paragraph to describe your great masterpiece but have in mind that many users will not bother to read anything over 100-150 characters.
- Create an interesting first paragraph. This is a rule that is always true but for successful social bookmarking it is even more important. If you have successfully passed Level 1 (headlines) and Level 2 (description), don’t let a rowdy first paragraph make them quickly leave your site.
- Cooperate and create ties with other social bookmarkers. A lot of stories make it to the front page not only because they are great but because they are backed up by your network of friends. If in the first hours after your submission you get at least 15 votes from your friends and supporters, it would be more likely that other users will vote for you too. For example, 50 votes can get you to the top page of Digg.
- Make it easy for others to vote and bookmark your site. It would be great when other people, not you, bookmark your site. Therefore, you must make your best to make it easier for them to do it. You can put a bookmarking button at the end of the article, so if users like your content, they can easily post it.

mystic_eye_cda asked: I use Firefox, Netscape, and IE. (Yeah I know might as well install a few more *sigh*).
I would also like to have my favorites stored on a different drive other than C. I try to keep all my files on E because the C drive is constantly getting reinstalled and whatnot.
Long story short, I am wondering if there is a program that would manage my bookmarks for me from all the different browsers and store them all in one place.
Yes, I know I should just pick one browser but really both Firefox and Netscape have things about them that end up annoying me so I switch back and forth. I also tend to have way too many browser windows open, so it is sometimes nice to have different browsers to be able to tell them apart. IE is just there because it is, and a few really bad websites only work properly on it.
So if anyone has any sort of interesting solution I would love to hear it.
